Just to bring everyone up to date, as of now, the Council has not set a date to vote on the project. There is a Council meeting on Tues April 18th. The agenda for that meeting will be released on Fri 4/14. I can't be sure but I don't think the beach project will be on it. You can check by going to the website below. The Council may ask the Corps for an extension so that the vote can take place after the May 1st deadline the Corps imposed. The other option is to let the date go by, or more realistically, what I have been told, the President of the Council can call an emergency council meeting giving 24 hours notice. That means Mr. Remo can call a meeting to take a vote and the vote would take place basically the next day.
So what this means for us is that we have to be ready to mobilize more quickly than ever. Our presence needs to be felt at the the vote. It seems unlikely that they would schedule the vote during Easter break when many people are away(including myself). The week of April 24th, if there is no extension from the Corps, seems the most likely. Based on what I know about people's availability, Monday the 24th may be likely.
As I said, I will be away over Easter break but will be checking my email regularly. What you all can do is check the City's website regularly www.longbeachny.org to see if the vote is posted. There are also people who will be in touch with me. If I hear anything I will let you all know and please if you hear something email me.
In the meantime, all you Long Beach residents, especially of voting age, keep calling 431-1000 ext 201 or email the City Council members at :
and state your name and address along with your opposition to the project. Encourage your neighbors, family members, etc to do the same. Keep the issue HOT! This is not the time to let up.
If your not a local, again your support and involvement is necessary and respected but at this part of the campaign, well, you understand, the Council responds to voters.
We are close to resolution, whatever that will be. I am still cautiosly optimistic and am thankful for all the support. We have indeed been stronger together. Let's keep it so.
Happy Holidays to all.
